Greetings! Hello to Internet Technologies for English Learning (ESP6013)

Greetings!

      Let's start with a... Hello! My name is Nurul Zahidah, but people just called me Nur. I am going to be 25 this December, but while I am 24, let me just relish to the fact that I'm not yet quarter of a century years old. I am currently an English undergraduate student in Malaysia and this blog is created for the sole purpose of sharing what I've learnt from one of my ELT Subject : Internet Technologies for English Learning (ESP6013). 


ESP6013: Internet Technologies for Language Learning
       You see, I am not the most tech-savvy person and the thought of handling anything computer-based or technology wise used to terrify me (but!) I secretly, wished that I could at least produce my own blog (yeay! I did it!) and produce content that could help people to learn more about a language that I love: English. So, you could imagine my feeling when I first entered into this class. Regardless, like a saying from this one famous person (can't remember who), 'What you imagine to be bad, is not necessarily be that bad. They might turn out to be good. ', this class is not that bad, in fact - it's the kind of class that I know could help me to grow in so many ways. After the first class, surprisingly enough, I actually looked forward to attend this class in the future! (Hallelujah!)

     This class is 100% coursework, with ratios of 20% for quiz 1, 20% for blog, 10% for article review, 20% for educational video and 30% for e-learning course-ware. Some of the work would be individual and some would be in group. 


My Course Assessment 

       Based on the assessment given, this semester would be one hell of a ride. But, I'm pretty sure that it's going to be a ride that I would thoroughly enjoy; so, I believe that this subject is going to be worth it. With the realisation of how much Internet matters nowadays ( and how much our young generations love it) , it's more important than ever for any language educators to help learners in learning language by using the technologies that we now have. So, look out for the next post, I'll share what I learn here in this blog. So, until next time!

                                                      Yay! I can do my work!! Hello everyone~~ This week is a free period to do our project again – yeay!  So , I’ve told you in my previous post that I have sets of pictures to be used for my project. Well, this week is about me finding the right tune with my courseware to make sure it works properly. Since we are doing a storytelling (it’s no longer a secret – I know ;) , over the weekend, I had Balqis recording her voice and I had to record mine as well. It was so funny because we had to use different kind of voices to portray different characters that we have in our story. Reflection 3: Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) and ESL

Hello again!  So, in this entry, I am going to share with you about what I have learnt on topic Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) and ESL. From the lesson, I’ve learnt that CMC is basically a ‘glittering term’ to explain interaction between people via separate computer through network connection. It’s literally a term to explain about what you and I have been doing for as long as we have internet – e-mail, WhatsApp; well, you get the idea. Interestingly, CMC has been adapted and used in education starting 1980’s to 1990’s (I was borne in 1990’s!) – what started as email and forum back then makes it possible for us now to have mediums for genuine communication, even distant learning to help in our own education. Reflection 12 (13th Post) : Test and Final Touch on Courseware Project

Hey Everyone! It’s the final week!!!!!!!! So, this week is the submission week for our SmartBuilder project. At this point, all that is left do is the final touch of our project. I’ve finish my part and all my groupmates have finished theirs too, so, we just need to standardize, compile, polish and do several trial runs on the software to make sure that it works properly. Before I ramble on the courseware – this week is also the week where we have to sit down for our test. Let me tell you- the test is no joke, especially to one who is positively climbing her way to learn about technology (especially – me!). Thankfully, I did my homework 2 nights before and I studied with my friends. But, I am pretty sure if I hadn’t put in the effort to do my revision, I wouldn’t have been able to answer or ‘goreng’ whatever answer I could for the test.  Now, fingers crossed – I hope I do well on the test!
