Reflection 5 : Using Podcast and Digital Storytelling in Language Learning

Hello everyone!

In today's entry, I am going to talk about my reflection on what I have learnt about Podcast and Digital Storytelling in Language Learning.

To be honest, I knew a bit about Podcast before the lesson; but, I wasn't one of those people who actually use Podcast in a daily basis. The lesson help me understand that Podcast actually revolves around audio or video which can be played and downloaded through internet connection. So, you know - you can directly search for any Podcast that you want to listen to, downloaded it and have it played whenever and wherever you want.  Podcast is not limited to merely music but in fact, it offers a whole dimension of world and topics from story telling to tutorial to lessons or talks - my lecturer for instance loves to listen to historical review Podcast  on Victorian era! (he teaches literature, so it kinda make sense).

The content in Podcast makes it possible for us - English Language Students - to sharpen our listening and reading skills. Why reading you might ask? Well, some of us find it harder to concentrate and finish a 600 pages of book in one day, so Podcast actually offered to have the book read to us instead. What we have to do afterwards is just..listen and use the power of our imagination. Because of that, I learnt that it is important for teachers to acknowledge the existence, contents and advantages of Podcast to help students in their learning. They might not be able to fully utilize the application in daily classes, but it is always good to remember that teachers do play a huge role in encouraging students to listen to Podcast (on topic that they are interested in) regularly.

As much as I have learnt from previous class, I wish I learnt  more about the skill to make my own Podcast. Internet makes it possible for us to share our own thoughts, stories, even opinion ; and I am more comfortable in voicing my thoughts through audio rather than having them recorded in video version. I've learnt that I could use audacity software to edit my audio before having them uploaded through YouTube or Sound-cloud; I've learnt how to use it in class, I just wish we could have a more practical hands-on practice as well. But anyway, included under this post is my first attempt in making my own Podcast. Now, I am well aware that it's not 'professionally-studio-good', but I'm hoping that it's decent at least. If you are here, try to listen to it and let me know what you think in the comment section below.

Until next week, see ya!
